The history of the New Apostolic Church in Cameroon

The beginnings of the New Apostolic Church in Cameroon

In 1974/1975, a Cameroonian from Kumba area/SW- Cameroon gets in contact with the New Apostolic Church while studying in the United States. He informs his friend Jacob Fon Musoro, a teacher from Njah-Etu/NW-Cameroon, about his new experiences. Jacob Musoro then contacts Apostle John Fendt in New York/USA.

First sealings and growth in Cameroon

In 1976 a first meeting with some new-apostolic church ministers from the USA takes place in Bamenda/NW-Cameroon. During his first visit to Cameroon in March 1977, Apostle Fendt seals Jacob Musoro and ordains him as an evangelist.

Until 1979, 3,300 souls in 49 congregations become new-apostolic in the English-speaking part of Cameroon as well as in some few places in the French-speaking part of the country.

Efforts to gain state recognition of the Church

In the early 1980ths Apostle René Higelin from France is endeavouring in Yaoundé to get the state recognition of the Church. On October 1, 1983 this important degree is finally signed by the Head of State.

30 souls are sealed and a priest and three deacons are ordained in Yaoundé by Apostle René Higelin.

Ban of the Church and stagnation

Due to very unfortunate circumstances, the state recognition of the church is revoked on August 7, 1984 by a decree of the Head of State.

As a result, further development comes to a standstill in both parts of the country. Nevertheless, Evangelist Musoro tries his best in order to preserve the already existing congregations in his area.

Transfer of the care of the church in Cameroon

In 1990, Chief Apostle Fehr gives commission to District Apostle Karl Kühnle to try to regain state recognition of the church and to care for the congregations in Cameroon.

Apostle Volker Kühnle -who cares  already  for the development of our church in Equatorial Guinea- is commissioned by the District Apostle to take all necessary measures.

Re-recognition of the Church and contact with the still active members

After many meetings with the officials, on October 28, 1992 the president finally signs the re-recognition of our Church!

With the help of Evangelist Musoro, many brothers and sisters in the English-speaking area find back to the church. After the renewed recognition of our church was publicly announced in the media, the first priest in the French speaking part of Cameroon, Paul Tsoungui Andegue, ordained in 1983, contacted Apostle V. Kühnle. This meant that work could be resumed in this part of the country.

Unexpected death of Evangelist Musoro

In February 1993, Evangelist Jacob Musuro departs unexpectedly. Priest Charles Nabru Tita and Priest Walter Sama from Njah-Etu are ordained evangelists by Apostle Volker Kühnle to care for the congregations in the English-speaking region.
