After the retirement of the lead Apostle Geoffrey Nwogu in December 2024, the new lead Apostle Oscar Nwanza made his first pastoral visit to Cameroon from March 5 to 9, 2025. This visit included several major stops: divine services, meetings with leading ministers from French-speaking and English-speaking Cameroon, and a meeting with the Yaoundé 1 district choir.
The New Apostolic Church in Cameroon, led since 2002 by Local Apostle Félicien Ebanga Edoa in the French-speaking region, and since 2018 by Apostle Ignatius Che Nchi in the English-speaking region, has so far experienced three lead Apostles, also responsible for the church in Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Nigeria: the Apostles Volker Kühnle (1990-2019), Geoffrey Nwogu (2019-2024), and now Oscar Nwanza. Moreover, the new lead Apostle Nwanza is no stranger to the Church in Cameroon: he came years ago to support the development of choirs and the training of choir leaders. The anticipation and expectation with respect to his first pastoral visit were therefore great.
The first divine service
On Thursday, March 6, the lead Apostle Nwanza, accompanied by the local Apostle Ebanga, visited the Ngoa-Ekelle congregation in Yaoundé. In perfect communion and with remarkable attention maintained by the Yaoundé 1 district choir, the congregation followed preaching based on the biblical text taken from Deuteronomy 3:23, which speaks of "faith, faithfulness, and unwavering trust in the Creator." The Apostles were warmly welcomed by the children. During the divine service, the lead Apostle was able to confer the gift of the Holy Spirit on a child through the act of Holy Sealing.
The joy of experiencing God and communion with Him and the believers during the divine service resonated throughout the gathering that followed.
